If you haven’t done so in some time, watch The Wizard of Oz, which premiered in August, 1939. It’s life 101 in 101 minutes.
We’ve all thought about running away from home and our past. You may have survived the divorce tornado, but lost your way back to you. Your brick road is filled with cracks and you’re surrounded by people made of tin, straw and fur. You can run but you can’t hide from you and your situations without suffering the consequences. Remember when you couldn’t wait to be on your own? Nobody telling you what do, what to wear and asking “what’s up with the hair?”
If you view your marriage as the best thing that ever happened to you, then you are selling yourself short. Life offers many options and crossroads. You have many choices, even if you can’t see them clearly now.
When it’s all said and done, the film’s message is simple – the grass is not always greener on the other side. The movie is also big on the idea of looking within yourself and discovering everything you need to survive in this crazy world has already been put in place. All you have to do is be you. Toto, too!
And while you’re busy busting your brains trying to figure out life, remind yourself to daydream and envision the joys that are ever-present and follow your own yellow brick road.
