At a loss for words

Standard

It’s June.  The kids are out of school, it swimsuit season, wedding season, Daddy day, and possibly your anniversary month.

This month we also celebrate Flag Day, D-Day, Headache Awareness Week, Bathroom Reading Week (this must be for the men), Hug Week and my favorite, Aphasia Awareness Week.

Aphasia is the loss of power to use or understand words.  Which is how most divorcees’ feel in their first year: at a loss for words.  Non- verbal skills tend to be heightened during the first year of divorce.  We either wear a permanent smile, a vertical line (avoid botox), or develop fine frown lines.  Our arms are in perpetual motion as we try in vain to convey what we cannot say.   Tears speak volumes.
